Russia goes OpenSource; all schools running Linux by 2009
Because of past budget constraints, Russia's schools mostly ran illegal copies of Microsoft operating systems and programs. Now that Russia has entered the WTO, the laws have become much stricter and schools are starting to be prosecuted. How to fix this costly dilemma? By building your own, of course.

Virtual Machine Creator
Use this application to create a Virtual Machine for VMware's VMPlayer. Once you submit this form, you will be prompted to download a ZIP file containing a VMware config file (.vmx) and a VMware disk image (.vmdk). Uncompress the ZIP file and open the .vmx file using VMPlayer. The disk images are blank, you can now install your operating system of choice. NOTE: This application does not use any VMware applications or code. It uses QEMU to generate disk images.http://vmcreator.com/virtual-machine.html
DeviceVM Launches "Instant Desktop" On ASUS Motherboards
" San Jose startup DeviceVM will launch a product on Wednesday to combat a simple problem: your PC takes too long to start up. For those who are impatient to jump on the internet, DeviceVM will offer its Splashtop, a way to browse the internet within 20 seconds of pushing the PC's start button and without fully booting the computer. ASUS, the largest manufacturer of motherboards, will include DeviceVM on its new $360 ASUS P5E3 Deluxe model and brand the instant-on Linux desktop feature "Express Gate.""http://blog.wired.com/business/2007/10/devicevm-launch.html
ANT Censuses of the Internet Address Space
The figure [...] shows our map of the allocated address space. They layout follows Randall Munroe's hand-drawn map of allocated Internet address blocks from xkcd #195. We convert the one-dimensional, 32-bit addresses into two dimensions using a Hilbert Curve, as shown to the right. This curve keeps adjacent addresses physically near each other, and it is fractal, so we can zoom in or out to control detail.http://www.isi.edu/ant/address/index.html
OpenOffice.org 2.3: New features, extensions and the much anticipated new charting tool
"Unlike previous 2.x releases, OpenOffice.org 2.3 is a new and enhanced feature release rather than a bug fix. There are several smart changes, a whole new approach to adding new features and of course the much anticipated new charting tool. This is definitely a release to get to know."http://searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid39_gci1275483,00.html
