Price to pay for giving up the car

"THE Assembly Government will have to find another £30m for transport if it wants to get commuters out of their cars, a consortium of 10 councils has warned.

The South East Wales Transport Alliance (Sewta) has put out for consultation a detailed blueprint for transport in the region from Bridgend to the English border until 2015.

But the body says its plans, which could help to end the area’s 100-year love affair with the car, cannot be implemented unless the Assembly Government increases its transport budget from between £60m and £70m to £100m a year."
