Time called on historic pub after 155 years

"ONE of Cardiff’s oldest pubs is being forced to shut down to make way for the new St David’s 2 development.

Built in 1853, The Vulcan is a favourite of rock group the Manic Street Preachers as well as hundreds of other regulars.

But after first being earmarked for closure because of the new development three years ago, owners Brain’s Beer have confirmed the pub, on Adam Street, Adamsdown, will finally stop pulling pints in June next year after being handed a compulsory purchase order.

Despite booming business, landlady Liz Smart and husband Brian were told by contractors the pub would be pulled down to make way for a 3,000-space car park for the new shopping centre."
