Laws of Hywel Dda - National Library of Wales

"The 'Laws of Hywel Dda' is the term applied to a system of native Welsh law named after Hywel Dda (died 950) who is credited with its codification. None of the surviving Welsh law manuscripts, however, is earlier than the second quarter of the thirteenth century. Although they contain law that is of twelfth- and thirteenth-century origin, scholars are agreed that these manuscripts contain a core of matter that is much earlier in date. Most of these books are small in size and were probably designed as 'pocket-books' to be carried about by lawyers rather than to be kept on library shelves."

Yn amser rhy hir i'r co';
Pan aeth Magnus Maximus o Gymru
Yn y flwyddyn tri-chant-wyth-tri,
A'n gadael yn genedl gyfan
A heddiw: wele ni!"

"If the language is to live, we see how essential it is that we move on swiftly to update and strengthen the 1993 Welsh Language Act: to strengthen the language’s status in public administration and services; to give language rights to Welsh speakers who wish to speak it in their daily lives and to Welsh speaking communities; to increase the provision of Welsh medium schools, to create centres to verify and standardise Welsh language terms in new fields and to establish a statutory Commissioner to be a constitutional guardian of the Welsh language."

Shopping to be delivered by Welsh donkey

"A WELSH donkey has arrived at a remote village to help residents fed up with hauling their shopping up a steep hill.

More than 30 residents living on the narrow paths of Chalford, Gloucestershire, are unable to reach their properties by car.

But rather than calling for better road access, locals believe donkeys – which were used in the village until the 1950s – will offer an eco-friendly alternative for deliveries."
