It also has several paintings by different artists of the same landscape or landmark. Charlotte Totsfield, who has been responsible for the Power of the Land gallery, said: “We’ve chosen to look at artists’ responses to the landscape in Wales."

Asus Eee PC 901 Linux Edition
"Hot on the heels of Asus Eee PC 900 comes the 901, sporting not only a smart new design but also Intel's Atom processor. So is it the machine the 900 should have been?
No question: the answer's yes. With the 901, Asus has released a sub-notebook that isn't simply a version of the original Eee PC with a bigger screen, it's a major step forward that, at last, justifies the price differential. It also addresses its predecessor's key problems."

How to Find Motivation for the Things You Hate Doing
"Make it an Art ... See your boring activity as a previously unrecognized art form you can master. When you give an activity more depth, the interest level goes way up. More importantly, it becomes easier to focus on the task completely, making it easy to swallow."

Database Performance: Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later
"Many database performance decisions come down to "pay me now or pay me later." Some decisions will produce faster inserts and updates at the cost of slower and more complex reads, while other decisions will slow down inserts and updates but provide faster and easier reads. "

Essential Life Lesson #1: Over is Right, Under is Wrong
"Toilet paper has a natural curve, a way of being that lends itself to certain orientations on the toilet paper spool.* If handled with skill and knowledge, it can provide an abundance of both sanitation and comfort, quilted together in each square of pillowy ply. If handled with clumsy ignorance, or worse, carelessness, it will beset the user with pain, filth, and frustration. Don’t let it end this way, with you curled on the tile floor of the stall, weeping in frustration, covered in wasted papier de toilette. To convince you, we’ve created some diagrams, harnessing the power of SCIENCE, to demonstrate the natural benefits of the over hanging method. "

King of the Road
"What’s up with groups that argue for less government but see publicly built highways as an expression of the free market?"
http://www.governing.com/articles/0804trans.htm
I find it exceedingly strange that a group of conservative and libertarian-oriented think tanks — groups that argue for less government — have embraced highways and roads as a solution to traffic congestion and a general boon to living. In the same breath, they usually attack mass-transit spending, particularly on trains. They seem to see a highway as an expression of the free market and of American individualism, and a rail line as an example of government meddling and creeping socialism."

Stephen Hawking's explosive new theory
"In this theory, the early universe can be described by a mathematical object called a wave function and, in a similar way to the light particle, the team proposed two years ago that this means that there was no unique origin to the cosmos: instead the wave function of the universe embraced a multitude of means to develop. Network Naming Schemes
"A good naming theme is scalable, unique, and easy to remember. The purpose of these naming schemes is to name network computers, but it can also be used to name projects, variables, streets, pets, kids, or any other project where unique names and rememberable names are required. "

Cinema Redux
"This explores the idea of distilling a whole film down to one single image. Using eight of my favourite films from eight of my most admired directors including Sidney Lumet, Francis Ford Coppola and John Boorman, each film is processed through a Java program written with the processing environment. This small piece of software samples a movie every second and generates an 8 x 6 pixel image of the frame at that moment in time. It does this for the entire film, with each row representing one minute of film time."

Wuala - your free online hard-disk
"Instead of centralized servers, Wuala uses the idle resources (storage and bandwidth) of computers of its users who can opt to trade their local storage for online storage. Note that not everybody has to offer local storage and in fact, not everyone can. Local storage is only useful to the system if the computer is online more than 17% of the time on average (about 4 hours a day). Only when you meet this requirement, you are allowed to trade your local storage for more online storage. But even if you do not contribute, we give you 1 GB of free online storage which is already enough for most purposes."http://wua.la/en/home.html

Online Information Storage: Completing the Web as Platform
"Of course, the premise of all this is that more and more of our information will continue to flow online along with the software that we use. Our personal data, work documents, images, audio, video, and everything else is more useful to us and others if we move it online, making it accessible anywhere, taking advantage of professional data center backup, and getting off of the hard drive upgrade treadmill. Particularly as our personal archives of digital content become large and highly valuable as we aggregate them over the years, they become irreplaceable assets that require better care than we might be able to give them without professional help."http://web2.wsj2.com/online_information_storage_completing_the_web_as_platform.htm

Dock Your Old Drives with the Hard Drive USB Dock
"Dock any internal SATA hard drive in this USB dock to turn any internal drive into an external drive on-the-quick. If you've got a few old hard drives hanging around that you'd like to put to good use but they aren't really worth installing in your computer's innards and you don't feel like taking the time to convert that old drive into an external hard drive, this simple dock, which appears to have taken swappable inspiration from your SNES, seems like a brilliant idea.
