Capital park best in Wales

"ONE of the capital’s parks has beaten off stiff competition from around the nation to be named the best in Wales.

Bute Park, left, situated right in the centre of Cardiff, has many historical landmarks contained within it, including Cardiff Castle.

It was given to the city council in 1947 by the estate of the Marquess of Bute.

The council still owns and maintains the park to this day.

Councillor Nigel Howells, executive member for Culture, Leisure & Parks, said: “All of us realise what an asset the green spaces are to Cardiff, of which Bute Park is such a fine example and we will as always ensure that they are protected for the enjoyment of all Cardiff residents and visitors alike.”"

Plans for new Bute Park bridge opposed

"Proposals to build a new access gate and bridge to Bute Park will be opposed at a public debate hosted by Cardiff University’s Professor Kevin Morgan.

The access bridge, opposite Corbett Road, is to be 9 metres wide to enable articulated lorries to pass each other and a new, wide road will then continue over the feeder canal and down into the park.

A promotional brochure created by the Council mentions ‘paths… widened to 4m to accommodate larger vehicles,’ but with no kerbed pavement there are concerns that lorries would pass uncomfortably close to pedestrians."

Being present and working with circumstances

"... When we learn and know something about Dzogchen, we should integrate. Integration is practice, and this practice is very important once we have this knowledge. We always say we should discover our real nature; it is not sufficient to learn pujas, visualizations of deities, or how to chant mantras, etc. These activities have benefit, but they do not take us directly on the path. Life is very short, so we must do concrete practice in daily life. Otherwise we can have some nice fantasies, and if we always go after and develop fantasy, we do not realize in the end. It's a pity because we know the principle of the teachings and we should learn something concrete."
