The Cardiff University Centre for the History of Religion in Asia

"We are delighted to announce the foundation of a new inter-disciplinary research centre at Cardiff University. The goal of the centre is to explore the historical development and social and political functions of religious ideologies in Asia. The centre brings together a team of Asia-focused historians and linguists from across the university as part of this endeavor. The centre will found a biennial distinguished guest lecture in honour of the noted Orientalist of Welsh descent, William Jones, as well as a variety of other research-focused events for academic and public audiences.

The centre has two key goals:

- to conduct, promote and develop research of the highest international standard in the History of Religion in Asia with an emphasis on Historical, Textual and Translation Studies.

- to disseminate research findings to the widest possible public."
