"3. Pen Y Gadair – 893m Cadair Idris, Southern Snowdonia
Often referred to as Cadair Idris – which is actually the ridge linking the 11km long summit ridge line, Pen Y Gadair is a quality day out. Take the Minffordd path up which at first reveals nothing of the mountain’s beauty as you sweat your way up through the stepped forestry path. However once this is complete and you emerge into Cwm Cau it’s an image you will never forget. A bonus is a well constructed summit shelter where you can have lunch away from the weather. Think twice before you consider sleeping there though – legend has it that if you spend a night on the summit you’ll awake either a poet or a madman. Firstly though, you’ll have to survive the hounds that roam the vast plateau at night…"
