Monmouth ruin find could pre-date pyramids

"Archaeologists claim to have unearthed the remnants of a large prehistoric building, which they say could be older than Egypt's pyramids.

Experts said they were mystified by the "unique" find on the site of a housing development in Monmouth.

Monmouth Archaeology, which found the wooden foundations, said they dated to at least the Bronze Age, but could be early Neolithic, about 6,500 years old."

Gower cave reindeer carving is Britain's oldest rock art

"A reindeer engraved on the wall of a cave in south Wales has been confirmed as the oldest known rock art in Britain.

The image in Cathole Cave on Gower, south Wales was created at least 14,000 years ago, said Bristol University."

Britain's oldest house found in North Yorkshire

"Carbon dating and analysis of hundreds of scattered flint tools reveal the building stood in 8,500BC, when Britain was still joined to continental Europe. At the time it was thought the country was home to restless, nomadic hunters. But the scale of development at the Star Carr site near Scarborough, combined with other recent finds at Howick in Northumberland and East Barns in Scotland, now suggest a much more cosy, settled picture."
