Crossroads Mythology

"If you want to learn how to make songs yourself, you take your guitar and your go to where the road crosses that way, where a crossroads is. Get there be sure to get there just a little ' fore 12 that night so you know you'll be there. You have your guitar and be playing a piece there by yourself…A big black man will walk up there and take your guitar and he'll tune it. And then he'll play a piece and hand it back to you. That's the way I learned to play anything I want."

Kris Gray

"Kris Gray was born in Barking on 29th September 1952 and became interested in the guitar when he first saw the Beatles on TV, and wanted to be just like John Lennon. Despite the opposition of parents, particularly his father, He eventually bought a cheap Rossetti acoustic guitar from a neighbour and taught himself some chords. There was a boy in the same class as Kris at school who could play drums so together they formed his first band with two others, whom Kris also taught to play. [...]"

Mojo Morgan

"The blues gives me a feeling, which no other music can," reveals Mojo. "When I was a kid, I was listening to Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters, then all the 60s blues from the UK such as Alexis Corner, John Mayall, and the Electric Blues, that came out at that time. As I grew, so did my love of music."

"It must have been clear to Ron that I was as much of a Blues devotee as he was – and it could well have been our shared devotion that had a bearing on his eventual decision to accept us as worthy. It also helped us to stick with him through the early interpersonal ungainliness caused by his acerbic intensity. Music was a passion that welded us together and whatever other music we liked—amongst an assortment of various’n’different—we all loved Blues. Ron was particularly excited by the fact that I knew about older Blues – Delta Blues and Country Blues. "

Hugh Laurie Blues

"I was not born in Alabama in the 1890s. You may as well know this now. I’ve never eaten grits, cropped a share, or ridden a boxcar. No gypsy woman said anything to my mother when I was born and there’s no hellhound on my trail, as far as I can judge. Let this record show that I am a white, middle-class Englishman, openly trespassing on the music and myth of the American south. "

Hugh Laurie Live

"Laurie’s knowledge of and indeed reverence for the music is apparent, and is perhaps what sets this apart from most thespian musical ventures. Each song was introduced with reference to its historical genealogy, the origins and arrangements dutifully ascribed to Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Hughie Ledbetter and Leroy Carr. "
